Project
STEAM Cell Transplantation Program Web Section Redesign
Client
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Responsibilities
UX/UI Website Design, Interaction Design, Project Management
Target Users
Patients & Caregivers
Problem
- Users had problems navigating the information
-
The section was unstructured
-
The design did not facilitate desired user behavior
Solution
-
Offered a new structure with new menu items to reorganize information in a more user-centric way
-
Early-stage prototyping helped visualize the proposed design and get stakeholder's approval
Result
An improved UX/UI with clearer and more intuitive navigation that takes into consideration web platform limitations
Before
The structure of the web section was not allowing users to navigate directly to the information that they were looking for.
For example, if a user was looking for resources, he/she would have to scroll over multiple tabs to find that the resources were located in a submenu in the 'Our Approach' tab and two categories - patient & caregiver resources - were mixed.
After
The web section was reorganized to help users navigate directly to the information that they are looking for.
For example, if a user is looking for resources, he/she can directly navigate to the 'Patients & Caregiver Resources' tab, where the resources are separated into sub-categories according to the sub-categories of users - patients & caregivers. This improved structure allows for better user experience.
The visual representation of the information was making it hard to navigate and read. The organization of the text was not in line with the target user needs.
Due to web platform limitations, it was not possible to add more interactive elements to help users process the information. However, the available features made it possible to add visual appeal and present information in a more structured way.
